TEXTILE ENGINEERING BUREAU — BISHU / ICHINOMIYA, JP · EST. 1967

( WEAVE DRAFT PREVIEW )

Weave, count, finish. Move the three numbers and the cloth changes pattern and lustre in place — the same procedure our drafting room runs every day.

The interactive preview needs JavaScript. Below is the default draft: 2/2 twill, Ne 30, washed.

Most mills sell hand feel.We ship the structure.

( STRUCTURE FIRST )

Hand feel is an opinion. A weave draft and a yarn count are facts you can reorder against. RASTER LOOM puts Bishu looms and engineering drawings on the same table and develops fabric with brands from the draft up. Every bolt ships with the spec sheet that reproduces it.

( FABRIC INDEX )

You don't pick a pattern.You engineer one.

Four fabrics from our development index. Each one carries its weave draft and spec sheet, and reorders under the same code — any time, exactly the same.

  1. RL-014

    Double-cloth graph check

A double cloth with two different densities, face and back. The drafting grid becomes the pattern.

  2. RL-027

    Steel gabardine twill

A steep-angle twill packed to sheet-metal density. Gabardine with a spine.

    Acid satin

Long warp floats that pool light and throw it back. Dyed sulfur lime.

( INSPECTION ROOM )

Pass or fail is a number, not an impression.

DENSITY 128 × 76SKEW 0.4°DEFECT 0 / 50mGLOSS 0.18

Every bolt off the loom crosses the inspection table, where we measure density, skew, defects and reflectance — bolt by bolt. A bolt outside tolerance never ships, however good it looks. Cloth becomes product only when the numbers match the sheet.

( THE BUREAU )

RASTER LOOM is the drafting room of a Bishu mill founded in 1967, spun out as an engineering bureau. Our job is translation: taking the good cloth that happened by accident and turning it into a structure that repeats on demand. We don't take on fabric without a drawing — however beautiful.

Even so, cloth betrays the drawing now and then.

What we engineer :

  • Weave structures & point drafts
  • Custom yarn & twist specs
  • Trial runs from one bolt (approx. 50m)
  • Production loom programs
  • Dye & finishing instructions
